The National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has reacted to the move by the government of Ghana to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Recall that, the NDC administration received barrels of backlashes from the NPP in opposition when John Mahama took the country to IMF bailout.
The NPP then led by Akufo-Addo and Bawumia severely criticised Mahama and called him “incompetent” for taking the country to IMF.
On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, the NPP government’s Economic Management Team led by Bawumia, and the Ministry of Finance headed by Ken Ofori-Atta are meeting the IMF team to negotiate the IMF bailout.
A lot of MP’s and NPP communicators have jumped into the defence of the party saying that, the move is good which Ghanaians must support.
But Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito believes that anyone who tries to overly justify NPP’s IMF bailout without conceding that the government has failed can expertly defend Satan in heaven.
“Anyone who is able to defend NPP’s decision to go to the IMF for a bailout with this inexplicable analysis can defend Satan in Heaven,” he stated Okay FM.
He added that “Ghana received lots of support from the World Bank and other benevolent institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic, I, therefore, find it absurd to hear people say that COVID-19 and the Ukraine-Russia war have contributed to the poor performance of the country’s economy.
As per him, the Finance Minister (Ken Ofori Atta) has run out of ideas and the way he is handling things now you will need fresh blood to manage the finances of the country and be able to put the economy in good shape.”
He said the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who also heads the Economic Management team looks tired and frail to even generate fresh ideas for the economy. And since the president has taken this bold decision to go to the IMF, they need a more resolved team to lead the affairs of the economy and even engage the IMF for a good deal to be struck as the country seeks financial bail.
