The National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has disclosed why is not contesting the party’s National Chairmanship position again.
The NPP will be holding its National Annual Delegates’ Conference from Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17, 2022, to elect national officers for the Party.
But incumbent Chairman Freddie Blay stated earlier that he won’t contest for the post.
According to him, the NPP chairmanship position is a hot seat therefore there should be a new face to lead it.
“I will not contest for the seat again but isn’t that I did not perform. The national chairmanship is a hot seat. There should be new names, faces and ideas to help the party.” He stated in an interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time.
Freddie Blay has been chastised by some party members for his poor leadership and poor performance. They claim he has unable to fulfil his promises as he pledged some years back.
Reacting to those accusations on the show, the outgoing chairman stated that, his accusers are just sharing their opinions, he believes in himself that, he has done a good job for the party.
“Those accusing me of none performance are just sharing their opinion. The NPP has won two elections in which I played a major role,” he stated.
According to him although he not going to contest for any position in the party, he can do other needful things for the success of the NPP.
“This is not the only position I can hold in the party. I love the party and there are other things I can do to support it,” Freddie Blay said.

Freddie Blay became an acting chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the suspension of its substantive Chairman, Paul Afoko.
Mr Blay was subsequently elected as substantive Chairman of the NPP at its national conference in Koforidua that took place from 7 to 8 July 2018.
He has been the National Chairman of the NPP for 7 years.
