The Asante Akim South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alexander Frimpong together with traditional leaders,staff of forestry commission and afforestation, assembly members, NADMO, and some executives of the New Patriotic Party on Friday 10th June 2022, embarked Green Ghana Initiative and planted over 550,000 trees.
Trees species and seedlings planted including mango, coconut, Acacia and Royal dwart.
Speaking to Oyerepa news reporter Joseph Amoateng, the MCE, Alexander Frimpong said that, the exercise forms part of Green Ghana project by the government of Ghana to fight against climate change hence the need for individuals and institutions to support the program.
In his part, the Juaso Divisional Forestry Manager, Mr Emmanuel Anim Brew said that, as part of effort to meet its target of planting 550,000 trees in the municipality, the commission has already distributed thousands of seedlings to various groups including churches, farmers, assembly members and individuals which he thinks has supported the exercise.
He said the fight against climate change must be an equal fight against deforestation and forest degradation.
