A private legal practitioner with Dominion Chambers, Lawyer William Kusi has called on the Police to use reasonable means to deal with #Fixthecountry allied demonstrators.
The demonstrators which include Oliver Barker Vormawor, Captain Smart, Okatakyie Afrifa and Benjamin Darko wrote to the Police that they intend to embark on a three-day demonstration starting from June 4 to June 7. The group notified the Police that they would want to contract the services of private securities and arm them with weapons. Also, they will want to be given time on GBC to address the nation in the course of their demonstration.
According to the Ghana Police Service, their request is inconsistent with the Public Order Act and therefore they can’t be permitted to protest.
“We are unable to provide security to demonstrations which is in flagrant violation of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 49) and had the potential to breach the public order and public safety, “ the police said in a statement.
Speaking to Lawyer William Kusi on Oyerepa breakfast show, the legal practitioner called their request unreasonable and insensitive and disclosed that the Police have the mandate to use reasonable force to oppose some of these things. Therefore they must apply it to make sure the demonstration does not see the light of the day.
“They are not being reasonable, how can you say you don’t have trust in the Ghana Police, who are they? The Ghana Police service should use Reasonable Force to deal with them.“ He stated on the show.
