Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has explained why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will conduct its elections in his residence, thus the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

According to Simon Osei Mensah, who is also Chairman of the NPP Election Committee, he gathered intelligence that some unscrupulous individuals have planned to create chaos in the impending polls.

His comments come at the back of concerns that the minister has allowed NPP to use the state’s facility (RCC) to conduct its Regional Executive Elections from May 27 to 29, 2022.

The minister says “There’s nothing wrong with conducting party elections in the government’s facility.”

Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Monday 23rd May 2022, he stated that he gave the green light for his party to use RCC for the elections because of security.

He said, “Certain people have planned to create violence in the impending elections hence the decision to vote at RCC.”

He declared that “there’s tension in these elections” therefore RCC is the best place for the party to conduct polls.

‘We considered a lot of the factors… At RCC we can maintain absolute security.” Simon Osei Mensah declared.

He added that the state’s security will take full charge of protection. No vigilante group whatsoever will be allowed to venture into the election venue. Therefore the safety of voters or delegates is assured.

“We are not going to play, we’re using state security so if you have planned to create violence, stay back, we’ll deal with you. No ‘macho man’ will be allowed to enter the election premises. No press without accreditation will be allowed to cover the polls. I’m assuring voters or delegates the best of security or safety.

I’m also assuring you that whoever is bound to win these elections will win it clean.” The Ashanti Regional Minister emphatically stated.
