Members of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) branch of Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), the student wing of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) are lamenting over hardship, claiming they have been neglected by the party.
According to them, they are hungry and struggling to pay their school and hostel fees because they do not get any support from the party, which results in many of them deferring their courses.
Speaking at the 2022 homecoming ceremony of the TESCON, UEW branch over the weekend, the President of TESCON, UEW, Joseph Gyansah stated that though the party has abandoned them, TESCON members use their own money to campaign for the NPP both on campus and outside the campus.
According to him, TESCON UEW members have become a laughing stock on campus because even though their party is in power they are suffering financially.
He, therefore, called on the NPP National Executives to always extend a helping hand to TESCON members in the various tertiary institutions in the country to enable them to campaign vigorously for the party to retain power in the upcoming 2024 crucial election.
Joseph Gyansah appealed to the NPP National Executives to put aside individual differences and forge ahead to ensure victory for the party.
For his part, the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency who doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexender Afenyo Markins assured them that the party will do its best to support them.
He appealed to them to always address their challenges to the Party through proper channels to ensure their problems are solved, noting that the NPP has a fund that supports the activities of TESCON members.
Afenyo-Markin outlined the many developments that the country has witnessed under President Akufo-Addo including the extension of electricity to almost all parts of the country, the introduction of Free Senior High School, road construction, and the provision of job opportunities for the youth.
He encouraged the TESCON members to work hard to retain the party in power beyond 2024 to continue with the developmental agenda.
