Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baah Acheamfour, has firmly dismissed the notion of a runoff in the 2024 elections, as suggested by certain individuals and groups.
Following the resignation of former Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten, from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the establishment of his own movement called “Movement for Change,” political analysts have speculated the possibility of a runoff in the upcoming 2024 election.
Supporting this viewpoint, Mr. P V Jantuah Dadson, a prominent member of the opposition NDC, believes that Mr. Alan Kyeremanten should not be underestimated in the elections due to his strong support base within the NPP, particularly in the Ashanti Region, which is considered their stronghold. Dadson suggests that this could potentially lead to a runoff.
However, Baah Acheamfour, speaking on Abusua FM during the “Gyaso Gyaso” show, categorically dismisses these claims as mere daydreaming. He firmly believes that Former President John Dramani Mahama will secure victory in the 2024 election during the first round. Acheamfour asserts that Mahama has been chosen by the first President of the Republic, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to liberate Ghana from the rule of Akufo-Addo.
“There is not going to be any second round in the elections, Ghanaians are waiting to vote the NPP out and make changes in governance. Ghanaians are calling for change”, Baah Acheamfour stated.
He additionally disclosed that the 2024 elections are going to be the second independence for Ghanaians from the hardship under Akufo-Addo’s rule.
“Nkrumah chose Mahama to lead Ghana for our second independence from Akufo-Addo”, he said.
“The 2024 elections the is a second independence for Ghanaians and it is unfortunate that Dr Kwame Nkrumah is no more. But he has appointed John Dramani Mahama to lead Ghanaians in the fight. We will deliver Ghana from the huge debt Akufo Addo has taken the country into, the high cost of living, high cost of fuel among others”, he stressed.
