Mr Kwabena Sarpong, founding member of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP ) has affirmed that, his party will loose the 2024 elections if it fails to fight illegal mining (galamsey)in the country.
The NPP government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo since assuming office in 2016 has consistently fought against galamsey. Yet, Akufo-Addo’s goal is yet to be scored.
Galamsey operations in the country have depleted vast land of cocoa farms and have as well destroyed water bodies in the country.
The Ghana Water Company has warned that, the extent of destruction of the water bodies could force the country to import water in the near future.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Wednesday, Kwabena Sarpong indicated that, although the NPP government if fighting against the menace yet, there is more to do to stop the menace.
“The galamsey menace has not been handled well….. We’ve lost the galamsey fight,” he disclosed.
According to him, the NPP government stands in a greater position of being kicked out of government if it fails to fight the canker.
“If we are not able to fight Galamsey, NPP will go to the opposition.”-Kwabena Sarpong categorically asserted.
