Residents of Nweneso Number Two, a quiet farming community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, have been left in shock and mourning after the brutal murder of an 18-year-old girl, Ruth Afia.
The horrifying incident occurred on Saturday, April 12, at approximately 1:00 p.m., while many community members were attending a funeral. Ruth was reportedly attacked with a cutlass and suffered severe head injuries, leading to her untimely death.
Speaking to the media, the Assembly Member for Nweneso No. 2, Hon. Freduah Agyemang, revealed that the exact circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.
However, a suspect has been identified by locals. The individual was allegedly seen smoking in front of the victim’s house shortly before Ruth’s brother, Henry Acheampong, discovered the tragic scene.
“This has deeply shaken our community. We’ve never experienced such a gruesome act before,” Hon. Agyemang said. “I am calling on the police and other security agencies to act swiftly. We also urge residents to come forward with any credible information that could aid investigations.”
The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into the case and has assured the public of its commitment to apprehending the perpetrator(s). Authorities are also urging the public to assist with any leads that may support ongoing efforts.
The community remains tense as residents grapple with fear, sorrow, and outrage over the violent loss of a young life. Efforts are underway to restore calm and ensure justice is served.
