A young man has been shot and killed in a violent armed robbery along the Yeji-Kumasi highway in the Bono East Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 6, 2025, between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm at Domeabra, a community near Yeji in the Pru East District.
Eyewitnesses told Adom News that the attackers signalled a commercial vehicle to stop. As the driver began to slow down, one of the robbers opened fire, striking the victim—reportedly a livestock trader—in the jaw. The victim died before the driver could fully halt the vehicle.
Following the shooting, the armed men forced all passengers to lie on the road while they stole cash and personal belongings. The assailants then fled into a nearby bush before police arrived at the scene.
The tragic incident adds to growing concerns over increasing highway robberies in the region, particularly along the Yeji-Kumasi corridor.
Residents and commuters are calling on the Ghana Police Service and the government to urgently enhance security along the route. Many attribute the rising crime to inadequate police presence and poor logistical support, which they say have hampered effective response and patrol operations.
Community members are urging authorities to deploy more personnel and provide necessary resources to restore safety and prevent further attacks.
