Over the weekend, former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, met Bryan Acheampong at the funeral of the Mamponghene in Kumasi.
The two, who are among the front-runners in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership race, exchanged warm greetings at the event.
In a light-hearted moment, Dr. Bawumia was seen jokingly asking Bryan Acheampong why he wanted to “worry” him, hinting at the friendly rivalry between them.
He said, “You want to worry me?” while greeting Bryan Acheampong who is a Member of Parliament for Abetifi, after which they both laughed it off.
The New Patriotic Party will have to make a choice of a flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
As of now, Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong have declared that they will contest in the election.
Although Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who represented the party as its flagbearer in the 2024 elections, hasn’t declared his intentions, grapevine information indicates that he will contest for the 2028 flagbearership.
Kennedy Agyapong over the weekend explained that a candidate who could not perform in the previous elections should and must not be given any opportunity to lead the party again, just like Adu Boahene was kicked out after a poor showing.
