Arguably, the Greatest Ghanaian gospel icon, Esther Smith has shared the secret behind her hit songs.
According to her, obedience and holiness have been pivotal to her success in gospel music.
Speaking on Oyerepa Entertainment Review ahead of her “Live In Concert” event in Kumasi on Sunday, the ‘Maye Nyira’ crooner indicated that, gospel music goes beyond show business, and that, artists need to follow God’s ways before they can stay relevant.
“Gospel music is a spiritual work, you can’t live your life the way you want it. Your private encounter with God is therefore very important….God’s ways are principles and commandments, do this and He will do that for you. ”
The “Onyame Banbo’ hitmaker stated that, gospel musicians can not live a life that pleases them, but must follow God’s ways all the time.
She said a gospel artist can not live a life far from God and expect to get hit songs, because hits are acquired through continuous encounters with God.
“If you get closer to your maker, he fills your songs with anointing and the moment you release a song, it becomes an instant hit. There are a lot musicians who have better voices than me but God fills my songs with anointing making them good in the ears of people. So you can’t live your life the way you want it and expect God to let you hit like Esther Smith, God doesn’t work in that manner.”
