The Minister of Communications and Digitalization (NCA), Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has revealed that the government is taking significant steps to establish Ghana as the leading ICT Hub in West Africa.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful emphasized that the government has already introduced key digital initiatives to serve as the foundation for sustainable growth in the emerging digital economy. She highlighted the extensive network of in-country fibre optic cables, supported by private sector infrastructure, to ensure reliable data services.
Speaking at the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day event at the NCA headquarters in Accra, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful underscored the theme of Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development.
She outlined that the Ghana Digital Agenda, launched in 2017, aims to utilize technology to enhance public services, promote transparency, and efficiency, and ensure accessibility for all citizens regardless of their location.
Furthermore, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful mentioned the Rural Technology and Digital Inclusion Project, initiated in 2016, which aims to provide connectivity to underserved communities.
She reiterated the government’s commitment to leveraging ICT for development and acknowledged the transformative power of technology in driving sustainable progress.
