The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North, Adomako Mensah, has joined numerous Ghanaians calling for the arrest of Benard Antwi Bosiako, the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP, for engaging in galamsey.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has ordered the Forestry Commission to stop Akonta Mining Company from operating in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Ministry on Friday, September 30, 2022, the company owned by the regional chairman of the ruling party, Antwi Boasiako alias Wontumi, has been engaging in mining activities in the forest without a permit.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the legislator supported the calls for the arrest of Womtumi if he is doing illegal mining.
“Wontumi is my Chairman. If what he is doing is illegal, arrest him. If his activity is legal, nobody has a problem. We should be bold and say the truth.
Researchers say, by 2030, we will import water into the country, so I don’t care who is involved. We will appeal to the security service to go after anyone doing galamsey. “
He disclosed that the Ghana Water Company would increase their tariff again because of galamsey.
