Woman, son arrested for alleged murder of husband in Nsawam-Aduakrom
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman and her son in connection with the alleged murder of a 36-year-old land agent and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old son at Nsawam-Aduakrom.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the family home in Nsawam-Aduakrom. The deceased was identified as Nicholas Cheetham, a land agent, while the injured victim is his 15-year-old son, Richmond.
Police say the matter was initially resolved when Nicholas begged for forgiveness and compensated Abigail, who reportedly demanded a plot of land and a large sum of money. However, she is alleged to have later planned his murder.
Reports indicate that on March 7, 2026, Nicholas handed GH¢30,000 to his wife for safekeeping until the next morning. Abigail allegedly informed her son, Prince, about the money and her plan. Prince then contacted a friend to assist in killing his stepfather in exchange for GH¢8,000, which was allegedly paid from the money.
While the incident was ongoing, Nicholas’s 15-year-old son reportedly heard a noise and looked through a window, where he saw the assailants placing his father’s body into a rubber bag for disposal.
Reports say that while they were attempting to dispose of the body, they realized Richmond had seen them. They allegedly attacked him, breaking his neck and striking his head with a cement block until he lost consciousness.
Thinking he had died, they left him a few metres from the compound while they went to get a polythene bag to carry and dispose of his body.
However, Richmond reportedly regained consciousness, ran to a neighbour’s house with blood oozing from his head, and narrated what had happened.
The neighbours are said to have informed the police about the incident, leading to the arrest of Abigail, and Prince.
The Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests. “We received a report early Sunday morning and moved in swiftly. Two suspects are in custody, and we are pursuing the third suspect. The survivor is receiving medical treatment,” the command said.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and motive.
