The National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP) Coordinator, Dr Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor has commended Traditional leaders in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District of the Western North Region for the massive support given to the National Land Reclamation and Afforestation Module aimed at changing attitudes and promoting sustainable mining practices.
Speaking at a two-day Stakeholder Engagement that started with a visit to traditional leaders within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District, Dr. Serwaa Donkor, extended the government’s sincere gratitude to the traditional leaders and the community for the unwavering support towards the National Land Reclamation and Afforestation Module aimed at reclaiming lands used by miner’s.
Dr. Serwaa Donkor as part of her visit to some sites within the Bibiani Anwiaso Bekwai District had an interaction with some beneficiaries and expressed her admiration for the significant progress made so far. The beneficiaries in return, thanked the government through the NAELP programme, which has helped to mitigate job loss in the mining sector.
In the final assertion of Dr. Serwaa Donkor she announced that a sustainability plan has been developed and will be unveiled soon at the local and district levels to ensure effective monitoring and management of the plantations.
Dr. Carol Serwaa Donkor, was accompanied by her team of technical advisors, subsequently undertook a supervisory tour to assess the progress of the earthworks, and the planting and maintenance of seedlings on the four (4) project sites.
The National Land Reclamation and Re-afforestation is successfully restoring vegetation cover and making the lands viable for agricultural production, with some areas even blossoming into expansive plantations.
The Stakeholder Engagement Initiative of NAELP is actively rallying and harnessing all available support to ensure the maximum success of the programme, with the aim of changing attitudes and promoting sustainable mining practices.
