Withdraw legal action on NDC primaries, follow party guidelines – GASJUS tells Dr Duffuor

A security organization, called Ambassadors for Standard Justice and Security Ghana (GASJUS) has asked the National Democratic Congress’s flagbearer hopeful, Dr Kwabena Duffuor to seek a resolution from the party instead of seeking legal actions to injunct the impending presidential primaries.

Barely 4 days before the NDC primaries, Dr Kwabena Duffuor has filed an interlocutory injunction against the party’s upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, 13th May 2023.
According to Dr Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team, there are some discrepancies in the NDC’s voter register to be used for the exercise.

But in a press release, signed by Akepae Michael Adombila, President of Ambassadors for Standard Justice and Security Ghana (GASJUS), believes that, Duffuor should rather seek redress from the NDC instead of going to court to delay the party’s elections process.

According to GASJUS, “Party members must learn to respect internal elections guidelines.”

“In as much as we at GASJUS support justice and security for all, we also want every citizen to use the proper internal channels to seek redress before looking elsewhere for redress which creates division, tension and waste of resources when it comes to party politics in Ghana.”

GASJUS’ statement suggests that, although it is good to seek redress from the law courts instead of the party, the complainants in the end bring some sort of enmity to themselves because they failed to follow the party’s principles or guidelines.

“Anytime an individual takes his/her party to court, that individual suffers more damages than the party and earns himself/herself a tag “Traitor “not because the plaintiffs are wrong but because parties in Ghana have their internal legal system that handles disputes and concerns.
So individuals who do not express their concerns and displeasure about certain stances and issues, but, use the government institutions like the courts of competent jurisdiction to seek redress also tarnished their own image.”

As per GASJUS, placing an injunction on the NDC primaries will affect its resources and timelines, therefore, entreating Duffuors’s camp to rather allow the party’s executive committee to resolve the matter.

“The litigation from Dr. Dufour’s camp if upheld by the court will put an injunction on the election consequently affecting their resources and timelines for their election and calendar.” The statement said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has said, it will not supervise the NDC presidential and parliamentary primaries due to the legal issues that have plagued the primaries slated for May 13, 2023.

“In order that we are not cited for contempt, the Commission has taken the decision not to supervise the conduct of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections until after the determination of the case by the court,” EC’s chairperson, Jean Mensah stated during a meeting held on Wednesday, May 10.
