Mohammed Issaka, a twenty-eight-year-old man with no fingers, has indicated his willingness to become President of Ghana in the near future, despite the difficulties he is facing.
Mohammed Issaka became physically handicapped when he was only three years old due to burns.
Mohammed, who has had a partial hand amputation, does not consider himself to be disabled.
Speaking in an interview with AMBASSADOR TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mohammed Issaka explained that “though I don’t have fingers I don’t see my disability as a person because, despite my condition, I can do what anyone can do without help.”
According to him, “my ability to operate a mobile phone and other electronic gadgets in my situation is enough proof that I can actualize my dreams of ascending to the highest political throne of the country”
“I have this belief that when a person with a disability becomes a President of Ghana or holds any other top position in Ghana, it will motivate other persons with disabilities not to give up on their dreams” Mohammed explained.
“Initially I was disturbed about my situation because things were difficult for me but ever since I started doing things on my own, I have become perfect that I don’t see myself as a person with disability.”
“My situation doesn’t make me sad because I always motivate and entertain myself. I’m always happy and I believe with determination, hard work and prayers, I can achieve all my dreams with my situation”
“Ghanaians should try and accept Persons With Disabilities because if they can motivate us they shouldn’t discourage us.
Sometimes the treatment from some Ghanaians towards persons with disabilities is very bad which need to be condemned” he added.
Persons with disability (PWDs) in Ghana have over the years shown that disability is not inability as they have taken up professions and offices previously deemed unattainable. Dr Henry Seidu Danaa, a visually impaired man, was appointed Minister of State in 2013 by President John Mahama.
