“What is a poor man doing with marriage? I can’t marry a poor man” – Rose Gold
Ghanaian entrepreneur and socialite Rose Gold has triggered public debate after revealing that financial strength is one of the factors she considers when choosing a husband.
Speaking during an interview, Rose Gold said she would not consider marrying a man who is financially struggling, arguing that people should work towards improving their circumstances before taking on marital responsibilities.
“I can’t marry a poor man. Even a poor man is not mentioned in the Bible,” she said.
The businesswoman explained that she admires people who leave behind meaningful contributions and are remembered for the positive impact they made during their lifetime.
“Even with funerals, I’ve never attended where they say, ‘What a shock.’ I only attend a celebration of life, a life well-lived,” she stated.
According to Rose Gold, marriage should not be viewed as an escape from hardship, but rather as a commitment between individuals who are building stable lives.
“What is a poor man doing with marriage? They should just be doing the Lord’s work so that God will take them out of that situation because being poor is not a good thing,” she added.
She, however, clarified that her remarks were not intended to demean people facing financial challenges or suggest that they are incapable of giving love. She stressed that her focus is on ambition, personal growth and creating a lasting name.
“I’m not saying a poor man is not human or he can’t love a woman. What I’m saying is that you should be willing to accept some titles for yourself in life. There are some families who have built a name for themselves over the years, so even if they’re not alive anymore, the name is still there. You should be eager to make an impact, not just get a lot of money to be called a rich man,” she said.
Rose Gold’s comments have since sparked conversations online about relationships, financial expectations in marriage and whether economic status should influence partner choices.
