As part of efforts to put a complete ban on tricycles within the central business district of Kumasi, the Mayor of the city, Samuel Kwabena Pyne has explained that they have been pragmatic in their directives.
Barely three months ago, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) came with directives to restrict tricycles from operating within the central business district of Kumasi.
This move was intended to help curb the issue of congestion within the metropolis as a result of these tricycles operating within the enclave.
In the course of implementing these directives in the past few months, the KMA has received serious opposition from these tricycle operators.
Addressing this issue on Oyerepa Breakfast Show Tuesday, the KMA boss reiterated that his outfit has remained firm and resolute in dealing with this issue.
He added that initially they were faced with serious opposition from a few groups of these tricycle operators but upon further engagement with them, things are going smoothly.
“When we started implementing the directives many of them were not complying so we had to engage them again and this time I think it’s working,” he started.
“Even when I was away I was constantly speaking to my people to make sure these directives remain firm and unchanged. But people were saying that I had left the issue unsolved and travelled and that is never true “he emphasized.
He further added that the time for these restrictions remains unchanged and starts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. But said that in a case where any of these tricycles are taken by the assembly owners or drivers have from 8 am to 5 pm to come to the premises of the KMA to speak to authorities for the release of their tricycles.
