Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has addressed speculation surrounding his relationship with his long-serving manager and publicist, Samuel Atuobi Baah, better known as Sammy Flex, insisting the two remain on good terms despite recent public criticism.

Rumours of a split surfaced after Shatta Wale openly faulted members of his management team over the cancellation of ShattaFest UK. During his outburst, he questioned the team’s contribution to the growth of his brand and accused them of spending too much time attacking fellow dancehall artiste Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, instead of creating business opportunities.

The comments fuelled widespread claims that Sammy Flex was preparing to leave the Shatta Movement camp. However, Shatta Wale has rejected those reports by sharing a previous interview to explain the nature of their relationship.

According to the award-winning musician, disagreements are normal in any working relationship and do not mean there is bad blood between them.

“I don’t want to be in a space where Sammy and I work together but we are not talking. We can have a disagreement right now and I can bash him. But the next five minutes I can call him and be like, ‘I’m craving fufu, let’s go and eat,'” he said.

Shatta Wale stated that Sammy Flex has remained by his side because he understands his mindset and gives him the freedom to express his creativity without trying to control every decision he makes.

“He understands me and accepts me as I am. Because the level at which I reason is different. I think in a different world and he gives me the chance to flow. We are creatives,” he added.

He further argued that many artiste-manager relationships collapse because some managers try to dictate every aspect of an artiste’s career rather than allowing room for creativity.

Mocking reports of an alleged fallout, the musician insisted there was no truth to the rumours.

“If he comes like, ‘You have to do this and this,’ it won’t work. That is why most artistes have problems with their manager. Foolish people saying me and Sammy Flex get beef. Villagers who don’t know what work is… Nponkye,” he ridiculed.

Shatta Wale’s clarification is expected to silence speculation over Sammy Flex’s future with the Shatta Movement, reaffirming that the pair continue to enjoy a strong professional relationship despite occasional public disagreements.
