The Inspector General of Police, IGP, George Akuffu Dampare has revealed that the Ghana police is not against prophecies made in the country, but the manner in which they are being communicated can cause fear and panic.
Recall that, last about 2 years ago, the IGP placed a ban on prophecies that will cause fear and panic in the country.
A lot of Christians, specifically, prophets upon hearing the announcement chastised him and indicated that he was interfering with their work as well us preventing the proclamation of the word of God.
Responding to a question by members of the Public Accounts Committee on whether the police have banned prophecies in the country, Dampare stated that, the police have not banned prophecies, however, it is against the manner in which some men of God carry those prophecies in public which ends up creating severe fear and panic in Ghanaian society.
“We are not against prophecies; we’re talking about communication of such prophecies that will end up creating fear and panic in our society which is unwarranted.”
Speaking about how some men of God prophesied about his death, the IGP indicated that, death is part of human life and therefore is not afraid to die. However, he seems not to understand why the prophets will make a prophecy about his showmanship.
He declared that no one prophesied about him until he became the IGP but now that he is a public figure people are predicting doom about him, which he believes is unwarranted.
“Before I became IGP nobody prophesized about me, now I’m an IGP everybody is prophesying about me. I’ve no problem because I’m a public figure. But why should it be such that God has revealed something and you want to share with me, you have to make it a showmanship and tell the whole country that I’m about to die?
Because I’m not afraid, because the only thing I’m afraid of is birth because if don’t want to die you shouldn’t allow yourself to be birthed. So once I’ve been born, I’m going to die, so as for death, the only thing I can do is probably become a friend of it, so that it can treat me with some leniency.
But the point is that, you go and make such an announcement across the whole world, and I have a wife, children, I have a parent who is alive and I have family members so every day when I leave in my house and I always wake up around 3 am and today I slept up to 5 am, my wife will be thinking that I’m dead. And this is something she is going to live with for the rest of her life. And why is it that God himself decided not to tell us when we are going to die? It means a lot.” He stated.
