The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has assured media professionals of unrestricted access to all collation centers across the country during the ongoing elections.

Addressing media representatives at a briefing held at the Electoral Commission Headquarters on December 7, Mensa emphasized the EC’s dedication to transparency and cooperation with the media to ensure credible and accurate election coverage.

“We are granting the media access to all collation centers nationwide,” she announced. “This is to ensure you can report firsthand on the collation of results and keep the public informed about the process in real-time.”

She underscored the critical role of journalists in fostering public trust and understanding of the electoral process.

According to the EC Chairperson, media access to collation centers will allow for a deeper level of transparency and accountability during the crucial vote-counting phase.

While granting access, Mensa urged media practitioners to uphold professionalism and accuracy in their reporting.

She reminded journalists to cross-check any information with the EC before publication and to avoid sensationalism that could undermine public confidence.

“The integrity of our elections depends, in part, on how the media covers it. We appeal to you to exercise caution and ensure your reports are accurate and verified,” she said.

Mensa also reiterated the availability of the EC’s dedicated toll number, 0800324324, for media inquiries, encouraging journalists to use it to seek clarifications or report any challenges encountered during the election.

As votes continue to be cast across the country, the Electoral Commission’s assurance of media access to collation centers highlights its effort to promote transparency and uphold Ghana’s reputation as a leader in democratic practices.

Journalists have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it will enhance public confidence in the electoral process.
