President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to incorporate a short military training program into the National Service Scheme (NSS) as part of efforts to instill discipline and fitness among Ghanaian youth.
Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address on Thursday, President Mahama emphasized the importance of discipline and physical fitness in national development.
“We’ll introduce short military training as part of our national service scheme. This will instill a sense of fitness and discipline into our youth,” he stated.
The proposed training is expected to complement the NSS by equipping young graduates with a sense of responsibility, resilience, and national pride. While details of the program are yet to be fully disclosed, government officials suggest it will involve basic military drills and leadership training.
The government is expected to provide further details on the program’s structure and rollout plan in the coming months.
