Flagbearer hopeful and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has called on former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to rally behind his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
Addressing a gathering of former MMDCEs in Kwahu, Bryan emphasised that the 2028 polls present a crucial opportunity for the NPP to reclaim power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He expressed confidence that with the right leadership — one rooted in unity, strategic planning, and shared purpose — the party can secure a decisive victory.
He appealed to the former appointees to throw their full weight behind his campaign, assuring them of inclusion and recognition in a future NPP government under his leadership.
Bryan added that his vision for the party includes rewarding loyalty and competence, promising that those who support the cause will be part of the team that rebuilds and governs.
“I will not win, we will win, and if there are any spoils, we will share for the benefit of our party and our country, so that is my invitation to MMDCEs. If you do it, we will hear; if you don’t do it we will hear,” he remarked.
He continued, “I don’t leave my men behind; I don’t leave my people behind. If I win today, it is Bawumia who will hand over to me”.
The New Patriotic Party has set January 31, 2026, as the day to elect a flagbearer for the political party.
The party hopes to elect a leader who will streamline issues in the party and lead till 2028, when the country goes to the polls.
However, the decision by the party’s NEC has faced criticism from major stakeholders in the political party who have described the decision to elect a flagbearer on January 31, 2026, as suicidal to the political party.
They hold the opinion that it will be chaotic for the political party.
