The President of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), Prince Obeng Hemeng, has denied claims by the Ministry of Education that they boycotted a meeting that was supposed to have taken place between the Association and the Ministry.
This comes after a press release from the Ministry of Education directed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department not to pay salaries to all members of CETAG for refusing work in the month of August.
In an interview on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show Tuesday morning, the president of the association explained that claims by the ministry that they earlier boycotted a meeting with the ministry were never true.
“We only requested an online meeting, and we never received any feedback from the ministry until we saw the release yesterday,” he stated.
“Let me state this with all humility. We can never disrespect the minister of education, who is actually our head in terms of education in Ghana. The point is that most of our leaders had traveled back to our various homes, so converging back for a meeting was going to be difficult. That is why we requested an online meeting,” he added.
Meanwhile, he also revealed that discussions were ongoing for leaders of CETAG to meet with the ministry to resolve issues amicably.
