Founding member of the National Democratic Congress [NDC], Alhaji Mohammed Saani says Ghana must change its educational system in order to end the threat of youth unemployment in the country.
According to him, there are certain subjects in the educational curriculum that must be removed to pave way for the introduction of innovative programs.
Alhaji Saani claims, the country largely depends on farming for survival, therefore, a subject like agriculture should be highly promoted and taught in all schools, thus from basic level to tertiary in order for learners to know the importance of venturing into farming.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV morning show dubbed; OBT’ on Wednesday, Alhaji Saani said, most students who complete the various educational institutions in the country end up acquiring no vocational and entrepreneurial skills to start up something for themselves. For this reason, the government should introduce vocation and entrepreneurship in schools, make them compulsory programs at all levels to equip students. “This will make students a huge prospect in creating jobs for themselves instead of depending on the government for work as we see today.”
He however charged the unemployed youth to create opportunities for themselves because “you have to take a step for someone to help you.”
On the other hand, he applauded the government for introducing the “planting for food and jobs” initiative since it will bring a lot of food to the country’s economy.
He also urged the government to help promote Ghana-made goods.
