Victims of the recent fire outbreak at Adum in Kumasi have turned down a donation from the Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
The donation, presented on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, comprised 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and soap. However, the affected traders expressed dissatisfaction, stating that their immediate needs were not being met. To voice their displeasure, they chanted “Yempɛ ɛmo,” which translates to “We don’t want rice.”
Meanwhile, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, along with New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives and members, visited the victims a day earlier on Tuesday, March 25. As the 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia pledged GH₵200,000 in financial support and bags of cement to assist with reconstruction efforts.
The devastating fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, reduced several shops and properties to ashes, leaving many traders in distress and in urgent need of assistance.
