Many Ghanaians are facing challenges in acquiring Ghana Card.
According to the government, the card will serve as the primary means of identification for Ghanaians.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the Ashanti Regional Registration Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Arthur Emmanuel, indicated the number of challenges they are facing.
According to him, they have all the equipment for the work, but the problem is inadequate cards to be issued.
The NIA Officer lamented they have printed over 300 cards that applicants have refused to collect. He revealed that each card cost between $12 and $14 US dollars.
He further explained that another problem is updating the cards and their replacements.
“One of the major problems is update and replacements. It has become the talk of the town. With the update challenge, both the applicant and the NIA official are always at fault.
When the NIA official fills out the application form, it’s the duty of the applicant to read through it for verification before he/she signs. But some do not pay attention to that. What they need is the card, forgetting there could be a mistake.
On the other hand, after the verification is done, the NIA official who will enter the information on the system and the one taking the picture would end up with a mistake for which the card would be rejected at banks and other places,” Mr Arthur stated.
He, however, urged Ghanaians who have successfully got their cards to handle them with care to avoid misplacement.
