Ghanaian comedian Clemento Suarez, popularly known as General Ntatia, has challenged the growing perception that entertainers only show solidarity when one of their colleagues dies.

Speaking at the funeral of late actress Beverly Afaglo, General Ntatia said industry players regularly reach out to one another privately, even though such gestures rarely attract public attention.

“I believe strongly that we do support each other in our own small way. When we are going to visit ourselves, there are no cameras around, so people don’t see it,” he said.

He nevertheless urged entertainers to be more deliberate about checking on colleagues they have lost contact with, noting that people may be facing difficulties that others know nothing about.

“If it’s an actor or actress that is your colleague that you’ve not heard from for a very long time, just go and look out for the person. We don’t know what might be going on,” he advised.

Recalling his relationship with Beverly Afaglo, General Ntatia described the actress as a committed professional who surprised him with her performance when he gave her a role in the stage production “A Man in the Dark.”

Although Beverly was initially hesitant because she had never acted on stage, the comedian said she eventually delivered a performance that exceeded his expectations.

“She was the lead character, and she killed the role. As I’m talking right now, I’m picturing her stage movements and directions as if she were a professional on stage. That’s what I remember her for. She was very dedicated to her work,” he said.

The death of Beverly Afaglo, whose career spanned acting, music and television, has triggered renewed conversations among Ghanaian entertainers about supporting colleagues while they are still alive.

General Ntatia used the occasion to encourage industry players to pay greater attention to their health, value their relationships and make meaningful use of the time they have together.

“I think one thing that we have to do is check our health regularly and also love each other. This is our moment. This is the time that we have to be here. Let’s spend it well and hold each other very well,” he added.

General Ntatia, who has built a reputation as a comedian and actor through his appearances in several Ghanaian productions, including the popular television series ‘Kejetia vs Makola’, said Beverly Afaglo’s passing should encourage entertainers to value their relationships, prioritise their health and support one another while they are still alive.
