The Adentan Circuit Court has fined three individuals GH¢4,000 each after they pleaded guilty to assaulting Nicholas Teye, a teacher at West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in Adenta.
In addition to the fines, the court ordered the convicts to sign a two-year bond of good behaviour.
Delivering judgment on Monday, March 30, 2026, the presiding judge cited several mitigating factors, including the fact that two of the offenders are students currently preparing for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The court also considered that all three had already spent six weeks in remand following their earlier court appearance.
The case stems from a February 2026 incident on the WASS campus, where Mr. Teye was attacked after a confrontation with one of the students escalated.
The incident sparked widespread condemnation from education stakeholders, particularly teacher unions, who raised concerns about increasing indiscipline and safety in schools.
Mr. Teye, who sustained injuries during the assault, is said to be recovering.
Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), along with other educators, were present in court to show solidarity with the teacher.
