The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has closed the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi after several mobile phones were seized from candidates during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, announced the decision at a press briefing on Friday, September 5, 2025. He explained that the measure was taken to safeguard the credibility of the examinations.
Following the closure, all affected candidates were transferred to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi, where they will continue their papers under heightened security and stricter supervision.
The development adds to a series of malpractice-related incidents reported in this year’s WASSCE. At least 14 individuals — including teachers, students, and invigilators — have been arrested nationwide in connection with various examination offences.
WAEC has assured the public that results from the affected centres will undergo thorough scrutiny before being released.
