The crucial bye-election at Assin North in the Central region is currently underway to elect a new Member of Parliament.
This election was called after the removal of the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, James Gyakye Quayson, who was found to have dual citizenship at the time of filing to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections.
Despite this setback, the opposition NDC has maintained Mr. Quayson as its candidate to challenge the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Charles Opoku.
The contest is a two-horse race between Mr. Quayson and Mr. Opoku, both natives of Assin Berekum.
However, the underdog, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana, is hoping to cause an upset.
Political analysts are predicting a high voter turnout, as residents have been queuing as early as 5:00 a.m. to cast their ballot.
