Dr. Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a shocking declaration, stating that the Accra office of the Electoral Commission (EC) is a crime scene due to allegations of stolen Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) equipment and Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) under military and police protection.
The NDC has been vocal about its concerns regarding the EC’s preparedness for the 2024 elections, citing delays and potential biases.
Speaking to media during the “Enough is Enough” demonstration, Dr. Boamah pointed out the inconsistency in the EC’s stance on auditing the voter register, highlighting that Jean Mensah, former IEA Boss, advocated for an audit in 2015, but the EC now refuses to conduct one despite calls from stakeholders.
The NDC has submitted petitions to the EC’s headquarters and regional offices, demanding a forensic audit to address concerns about the provisional voter register’s accuracy and credibility. The party believes an audit would reassure the public of the register’s integrity.
An audit, in this context, refers to a thorough examination of the voter register to ensure its accuracy and credibility. The EC’s motto includes transparency, which raises questions about their reluctance to conduct an audit. If they have nothing to hide, why not allow an audit to reassure the public of the register’s integrity?
