Founder of the United People’s Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has lambasted the Ashantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over the rampant flooding in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
Six persons including minors have been confirmed dead following the downpour which flooded parts of the Ashanti Region on Monday 27 September 2021.
These sad incidents were recorded at Ahenema Kokoben, Sokoban, Daban, and Kromoase.
Commenting on this tragic incident on Oyerepa TV’s morning show OBT Agenda, Mr. Odike blamed Asantehene and his sub-chiefs for the flooding in Kumasi.
According to the UPP founder, there was no flooding in Kumasi during the late Asantehene Opoku Ware’s era.
“During the late Asantehene Opoku Ware’s time, there was no flooding here. If no one is telling you (Otumfuo), I will tell you. We’re not happy about what is happening in Kumasi. It’s your chiefs who are causing all this problems here, talk to them…you are the superior if not we’ll blame you for their bad actions.”
Odike indicated that, the Asantehene once said even if a pin falls on the grounds of Kumasi-Kejetia he sees it.
“Go to Owabi enclave where there is water treatment plant that people drink from it, there you will see used sanitary pads floating in the water. The chiefs have sold all the lands there. Is Otumfou not aware?. Odike quizzed.
“Nananom, you’re those who sell the lands in Ashanti region, so it’s about time we told you the truth. Otumfou must rise and take action to stop all their irresponsibility in Kumasi”. He stated.
