Nana Opoku Achampong, Ankobeahene of Ayeduase in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti region has said, most movies that are locally produced do not reflect the Akan culture.
According to him, 85 percent of Kumawood movies do not reflect the Ghanaian customs and traditions.
“About 85 percent of our local movies flop when it comes to our way of life.” The Ayeduase Ankobeahene stated on Oyerepa TV’s “Cine Fie”, Saturday.
He explained that, the way of life in the local movies do not reflect the culture of Akans, but “the movie, the story, they (producers) are on point.”
Speaking about the factors that have collapsed the local industry, he revealed that, producers do not have a strategic plan.
“There is no strategic plan, hence the collapse of local movies.”
He said movie “producers should have known that a time will come people will not buy CDs.” However, the only clue industry players can chance on to revive the movies, is to rebrand themselves.
“They have to rebrand themselves, they must follow current trends and people will patronize their movies going forward.”
Nana Opoku Achampong, on the other hand seized the opportunity to advise industry players to project well the Akan culture in their movies, especially project what is being done in the various Akan palaces.
“Let’s project what we see in our Akan palaces in our movies”
Nana Achampong, urged producers to change their ways of doing things to compete with the foreign standard. He said if the locally made films are packaged well, people can never resist their patronage.
“Do the movies well and the public will patronize them.”
He further advised industry players to unite in their work.
