Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has visited the site of the collapsed building at Accra Experimental Basic School in Newtown following Sunday’s tragic incident.
The collapse of the unfinished structure, reportedly used for Christian worship on Sundays, has claimed three lives, while 20 others are receiving medical treatment in various hospitals.
Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) personnel and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are clearing debris at the site after completing search and rescue operations. The area has been cordoned off to ensure the safety of emergency teams.
Accompanied by the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed profound sadness over the tragedy, offered condolences to the families of the deceased, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
She also visited the victims receiving care at the 37 Military Hospital.
The incident saw a rapid response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), NADMO, and the Ghana Police Service, who worked together to rescue and account for those affected.
