Upper East Region: Soldier dies during Counter-Terrorism training exercise in Binduri

A military officer has lost his life during a counter-terrorism training exercise in the Upper East Region after an explosion occurred at Binduri during operations under Exercise Storm Shield.

The deceased officer, identified as Private Adotey, was a Physical Training Instructor with the 6 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Reports indicate that he died while attempting to rescue fellow soldiers at the scene of the blast.

The incident occurred during the ongoing Exercise Storm Shield, a 10-day military operation conducted across Bawku, Pusiga, and Binduri to strengthen troop preparedness in combating terrorism and violent extremism.

The Ghana Armed Forces officially concluded the exercise during a closing ceremony held at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua.

Addressing personnel at the ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, highlighted the importance of the exercise in enhancing national security and equipping troops with the skills needed to respond effectively to emerging security threats.

Military authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal explosion.
