The residents of Goldem, Sichaasa, and Badomsa communities in the Builsa North municipality of the Upper East Region will no longer have to walk several kilometers to seek healthcare services.
This follows the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound by the Member of Parliament for the Builsa North Constituency, Hon. James Agalga.
The CHPS Compound comes with a consulting room, Outpatient Department (OPD), male and female wards to boost quality health delivery in the aforementioned communities.
The intervention was critical not only to the health of the beneficiaries but also to save them money because they had to travel to Wiaga St. Lucas Hospital and other places to access healthcare delivery.
The facility, which is expected to provide health services in the area and beyond, would help increase access to health services for over 14,000 rural people, and subsequently improve the well-being of the people of Goldem, Sichaasa, Badomsa, and its surrounding communities.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, James Agalga, at a short ceremony to hand over the facility, underscored the importance of the facility as it would alleviate the suffering of the people who have had to travel long distances to seek medical attention.
Mr. Agalga assured of his willingness to support his constituents across all sectors of the economy to enhance their livelihoods.
According to the Builsa North lawmaker, the Chiefs brought his attention to the facility initiated by the communities and how the community members found it difficult to access primary health care in the area and appealed to him directly for support to complete the project.
The MP also donated ten (10) tables and chairs and two beds to the facility as part of his commitment to improve quality health delivery in the area.
Nab Akaateba Azunchonka, in his welcome remarks on behalf of the chiefs and people of the three communities, expressed his appreciation to the MP for completing the project. He indicated that the establishment of the health facility was a welcoming relief to the communities.
He also noted that it would help solve the accessibility challenge faced by the people in the community, as they have to visit the Wiaga St. Lucas Hospital or Sandema Hospital to receive healthcare.
He added that the health facility was initiated by the community members with the support of the MP and others but was later taken over and completed by the Member of Parliament for the area, James Agalga.
Nab Akaateba Azunchonka, on behalf of the three communities, expressed his gratitude to the MP for his kind gesture and gave the assurance that the communities would ensure regular maintenance to preserve the facility for posterity.
Access to quality healthcare delivery remains a challenge in most rural communities, where most pregnant women, especially, have had to be carried on motorbikes on deplorable roads to access healthcare in other communities. This has resulted in increased mortality rates in the communities.
