President of the Health CEOs, and Scientists Network, Rev.TDr Kwame Dzikunu has called on Ghanaian politicians to prioritize herbal medicine, emulating China’s success in the field.
He praised local herbal researchers for their efforts but noted a lack of adequate support.
Speaking at the African Health CEOS and Legend award ceremony, Dr. Dzikunu emphasized the need for government investment in herbal medicine, particularly in health facilities, to enhance Ghana’s global reputation.
He encouraged politicians to allocate funds for building hospitals and health facilities, in addition to party offices.
“Let’s prioritize health facilities to benefit our citizens. Herbal medicine has immense potential, but it requires government support.” He commended herbal researchers for their efforts but noted that they lack adequate support
Rev. Dr. Kwame Dzikunu emphasized the need for a deliberate effort to integrate orthodox and herbal medical practitioners for the benefit of Ghanaians.
He noted that individuals have diverse beliefs regarding healing processes, with some trusting orthodox medicine and others preferring traditional methods. Therefore, the government should take steps to incorporate herbal medicine into hospitals.
Dr. Dzikunu acknowledged the healthcare sector’s complexities and stressed that collaboration between orthodox and herbal practitioners is essential for progress. He believes this synergy will lead to improved healthcare outcomes for Ghanaians.
Dr. John Wiafe Akenteng, founder of Natural Way Herbal Clinic, emphasized the importance of taking herbal medicine seriously.
He noted that herbal medicine is the only legacy left by our forefathers, and therefore, we should prioritize it to benefit future generations.
According to Dr. Akenteng, advised African countries, particularly Ghanaians, to continue prioritizing herbal medicine, just like other countries such as India. He encouraged support for herbal medicine, suggesting that Ghana can also develop and export it to other countries.
