A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Robert Abotzabire, has, in the spirit of St. Valentine, put smiles on the faces of pupils of the Lamboya Model Primary School located in the Bawku West District in the Upper East region.
The school received a total of 40 dual desks at a short ceremony held at the school premises. This will provide 80 sitting places for the learners.
During the donation, Rev. Fr. Robert Abotzabire noted that learners had to endure the discomfort of sitting on the bare classroom floors for lessons and hoped that this donation would improve teaching and learning.
Most basic schools in the Bawku West District are grappling with inadequate furniture, thereby affecting quality education delivery.
Madam Selina Agandaa, the headmistress of the school, thanked Fr. Abotzabire for the kind gesture and promised to put the furniture to good use. She, however, noted that the lack of furniture in the school negatively impacted teaching and learning.
She further explained that the situation also contributed to children’s lack of interest in school in the area, as they constantly absented themselves from school.
Madam Selina was optimistic that the donation would go a long way toward helping pupils at the Lamboya Model Primary School.
The opinion leaders of the community, SISO, and the Assembly Member for the area were all present to witness the donation.
