The La District Court has remanded two women into custody for their alleged involvement in the assault of a 12-year-old girl near La Roman Junior High School.
The accused, Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, are facing three charges: conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child.
Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently on the run and is being actively sought by the police.
Both accused persons pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the court. A bail application filed by their lawyer was opposed by the prosecution and subsequently rejected by the court. The two women have been remanded in custody for two weeks to allow police to complete investigations.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, argued that granting bail could interfere with ongoing investigations and maintained that the accused persons posed a flight risk.
The case has been adjourned to January 19, 2026.
Prosecution’s case
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Asare told the court that the victim, whose identity has been withheld for protection, frequently visited the Mesopeh household to run errands and assist with household chores.
According to the prosecution, on December 30, 2025, the victim had an altercation with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother, which escalated into a physical confrontation during which the boy sustained injuries.
After the incident was reported to family members, the accused persons allegedly went in search of the victim and assaulted her, causing injuries and bodily harm.
The prosecution added that a video of the assault later surfaced on social media and circulated widely, leading to the arrest of the accused persons to face prosecution.
