Two women who allegedly made offensive and abusive statements against President John Mahama in connection with the August 6 helicopter crash broke down in tears as they appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court 1 for the second time.
The accused, Priscilla Duah Birago, a 29-year-old National Service Person, and Charity Dede Tetteh, a 29-year-old beautician, were remanded for an additional two days. They have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit an offence, offensive conduct, and breach of the peace.
According to the prosecution, the two conspired to make comments such as: “We would have been happier if the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, was involved in the helicopter crash and dwarfs had eaten him up and that a lot of people are dying under his tenure of office.”
The case has been adjourned to September 4, 2025, when the accused are expected to reappear before the court.
Defence counsel, Mr. Samuel Kwesi Agyei, prayed the court to grant the women bail, arguing that the prosecution had not concluded its investigations. He added that the accused had already spent several days in lawful custody, learnt their lesson, and would not interfere with investigations since their mobile phones were in police custody.
However, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo opposed the bail application, explaining that investigations were still ongoing. He disclosed that the police had applied to the High Court for authorization to extract videos allegedly made by the accused persons from their mobile phones.
Presiding judge Mrs. Angela Attachie subsequently remanded the two into custody to reappear on Thursday, September 4.
Presenting the facts, the prosecution said on August 6, 2025, Charity and Priscilla hosted a live-streamed discussion on TikTok during which they made offensive remarks about President Mahama. The statements were later disseminated on Charity’s TikTok account, “Abena Birago.”
The accused were later arrested, and a forensic capture of the livestream was secured as evidence.
