Residents, frustrated by the destruction of their water source, took matters into their own hands to confront the illegal miners.
According to Rainbow Radio report, the two residents were shot and another sustained machete wounds.
The area is now unstable, with armed police officers deployed to maintain law and order.
Reports indicate Chinese nationals are conducting illegal mining in the area.
Residents initially protested at the Chief’s Palace, demanding accountability, but were dismissed.
They had confronted the Chief and elders over the illegal mining activity, but he denied involvement.
They then went directly to the site where the illegal miners were working to confront them.
The confrontation escalated, resulting in gunfire and retaliation, which left an illegal miner with severe injuries.
After leaving the Palace, the residents went to the illegal mining site and confronted the miners, who then fired gunshots, injuring two of the residents.
In retaliation, one of the illegal miners was attacked with a machete and his hand was severed.
He fired gunshots until his ammunition was depleted.
The residents took advantage of this and attacked him.
