Two killed, 19 injured in multi-vehicle crash near Achimota

Two people have died and 19 others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the N1 highway near the Achimota footbridge on February 23, 2026.

In a social media update on February 24, 2026, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said its National Headquarters dispatched rescue teams to the scene after receiving a distress call at 19:58 GMT.

The crash involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20). Emergency personnel worked to extricate victims and provide immediate medical care.

Of the 21 people involved, two were pronounced dead at the scene, while 19 were transported to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.

“The service, working alongside other emergency responders, secured and managed the scene, prevented secondary incidents, and cleared the roadway to restore traffic flow,” the GNFS stated.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. The GNFS extended condolences to the families of the deceased, wished a speedy recovery to those injured, and urged motorists to observe traffic rules and prioritize road safety.

“The Service extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, while urging all motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and prioritize road safety,” the statement concluded.
