A bus carrying 62 schoolchildren from Ben Konadu SDA Basic School in Asante Akyem has been involved in a fatal accident on the Adukrom-Somanya road.
According to Citi Newsroom, several students are feared dead, while many others sustained injuries in the tragic crash, which occurred on the Aseseeso stretch as the children were on an excursion to Akosombo.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control while descending a hill, causing the bus to somersault multiple times before landing on its side.
The impact left several students trapped in the wreckage, while others were thrown from the vehicle.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service, arrived swiftly at the scene to assist in the rescue operation. They worked tirelessly to free the trapped victims and ensure that the injured received immediate medical care.
The injured students have been rushed to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties as investigations continue to determine the cause of the accident.
