Two people have reportedly been killed, while seven others have sustained gunshot wounds following a clash between the youth of Effutu and Gomoa Pomadze (New Winneba) in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.

According to reports, the clash occurred this morning after some Gomoa youth confronted members of the Effutu community over the alleged sale of land at New Winneba by persons from Effutu.

The dispute reportedly stems from competing claims over ownership of the land. While the Effutu people claim that the area, currently known as New Winneba, forms part of their traditional land, the Gomoa youth insist that the land belongs to the people of Gomoa.

The Gomoa and Effutu communities have been engaged in a long-standing land dispute over parts of the Gomoa Central area.

The confrontation reportedly escalated into an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the deaths of two people and leaving seven others critically injured.

The injured victims have since been rushed to the Trauma Hospital for treatment.

Reports further indicate that some Gomoa youth are heading towards Winneba Township, while some youth from Winneba have reportedly gathered at Winneba Junction to prevent them from entering the town.

The development has heightened tension in the area, with the police currently at the scene working to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

One person has reportedly been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.
