The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to desist from attacking and sacking its agents at the centers of the ongoing transfer of vote is being carried out.

In a press statement copied to Oyerepaonline.com signed by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC Mr. Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, the party described act as “unfortunate and barbaric”.

“The attention of the Regional Chairman has been drawn to unfortunate and barbaric act by some officers of the Ghana police service in Ashanti Region conniving with the NPP to attack and sack our agents from various centres where transfer of vote is ongoing, “the statement said.

The caution from the NDC to Ghana Police comes barley two days after the Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday May 30, 2024 announced that it will begin the procedures for transferring votes, applying for proxy voting, and replacing lost or damaged voter ID cards.
According to the EC, the period for transfers and proxy applications will last until June 14.

But, individuals who recently registered are not eligible to transfer their votes or apply for proxy voting, as per Clause 91, according to the Electoral Commission.

But in their press statement to caution, Mr. Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi stressed that, despite the party’s believe in hard work, free and fair – transparent election, they the NDC “will not allow the police to be used against them”.

The statement went ahead and alleged that, “this fallacious act of unprofessionalism is spearheaded by some District Commanders of the Ghana Police service acting on behalf of the NPP”.

It added that, if the police are ignorant of the law and process governing registrations and transfers, they should subject themselves to wisdom and learn the position of the law instead of acting unprofessionally.

According to the NDC, they believe the act by the Ghana police is a clandestine agenda against them in the Ashanti Region hence they must prepare themselves to face the consequences of same at the right time.

The NDC in also revealed that, they have commissioned party executives across the region to send them list of all such “ferocious police officers who are oppressing agents to the advantage of the failed NPP”.

The party is however, calling on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to call its officers they (NDC) believe are preparing the ground to the NPP to order.

“We call on the Regional Police Command to call these officers to order for peace to reign at various centres”.
