A tipper truck driver is in critical condition after being shot in the eye by armed robbers during an attack at Gomoa Potsin along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway in the Central Region.
The victim, an employee of Nag Fairmount Construction, was reportedly on duty when he was ambushed by the assailants. The incident occurred amid a wave of armed robbery cases in the area.
Confirming the attack, ASP Richard Ahiagbor, District Police Commander for Gomoa Dominase, said it took place during a robbery operation and forms part of an alarming pattern of criminal activity along the highway.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, ASP Ahiagbor revealed that police have documented more than four robbery incidents in the area over the past week alone.
Residents told Adom News that the robbers are exploiting the reduced traffic flow and limited visibility caused by ongoing road construction to stage their attacks. They are calling on Central Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, and other relevant authorities to take urgent action to bolster security.
In response, ASP Ahiagbor assured the public that the Police Administration has increased its presence in the area, including the establishment of multiple checkpoints along the highway to deter further criminal activity.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
