The Ghana Police Service, through the Eastern Regional Command, has arrested three suspects in a major intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of a large quantity of suspected narcotics and the exposure of an alleged GH¢100,000 bribery attempt.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 11, 2026, the Police said the operation was carried out on Saturday, May 10, 2026, following intelligence on suspected drug trafficking activities in the Akosombo-Bonya area.

According to the statement, officers tracked a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 to a secluded area near the Atua Government Hospital, where suspects were allegedly transferring sacks of suspected Indian hemp into a Howo Zonda tipper truck with registration number GN 7948-21.

Police moved in and intercepted both vehicles, along with the suspected narcotics.

The statement noted that some individuals fled into nearby bushes during the operation, but officers managed to secure both trucks and a total of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.

One of the suspects, identified as Solomon Tettey, a 39-year-old welder and resident of Atua, allegedly claimed ownership of both the vehicles and the consignment, stating that the drugs were being transported to Nigeria.

Police further alleged that Tettey attempted to interfere with the investigation by offering a GH¢100,000 bribe to the officers on the scene.

“In an attempt to compromise the investigation, suspect Solomon Tettey offered the officers a bribe of GH¢100,000. Police personnel feigned interest to secure evidence of the bribery. The suspect transferred GH¢90,000 via Mobile Money and handed over GH¢10,000 in cash,” the statement said.

Following the transaction, officers from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Odumase Police moved in to arrest Tettey.

His alleged accomplices, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later arrested after reporting to the Regional Police Headquarters.

The suspects and the seized exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations and legal action.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and upholding integrity within law enforcement operations across the country.
